Stacy Solodkin

Stacy Solodkin is a Los Angeles-based artist whose practice spans painting and sculpture. For nearly four decades, she worked primarily in acrylic and encaustic, developing an abstract visual language defined by accumulated gesture and material transformation. Her recent sculptures extend that investigation into porcelain, carrying rhythm, structure, and tactility into three dimensions.

Working primarily with porcelain reinforced by cotton linter, Solodkin creates forms that would be structurally impossible without the fibers' temporary architecture. This ephemeral scaffolding ultimately burns away, as does the salvaged organic material Solodkin often engages for added support. Rooted in this kind of resourcefulness and improvisation, her practice positions the studio as a site of continual experimentation where setbacks become catalysts for invention -- where resilience is discovered in moments of decision.

Solodkin has studied ceramic traditions throughout the United States and Asia and recently expanded her material research at Pilchuck Glass School, founded by Dale Chihuly. Her work has been exhibited throughout the US and is held in private collections internationally.
