Katie Grove

Katie Grove creates sculptures that ask a simple question: Where does nature end and the work of the human hand begin? Working with foraged wood, bark, and plant fibers, she deconstructs and reweaves natural forms until the answer is difficult to discern.
Drawing on a wide repertoire of basketry and weaving traditions, Grove develops techniques for carefully manipulating each material, from sturdy white oak logs to flexible basswood fiber and honeysuckle vines. Every plant requires a unique approach, and cultivating an ongoing relationship with each one is central to her process.

Whether revealing woven patterns beneath the surface of bark or gradually transforming a log into an intricate weaving, Grove's work invites viewers to pause and look more closely.

"With my work, I seek to evoke the same sense of awe and wonder I experience in nature, inviting others to slow down and notice the overlooked elements around us."
