Joshua Vogel

Joshua Vogel is a sculptor, furniture designer, and co-founder of Blackcreek Mercantile & Trading Co. (BCMT) based in Kingston, New York. Raised in New Mexico in the 1970s, Vogel traveled extensively throughout Australia, Haiti, Europe, and the American West where he pursued Anthropology and Art History at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. Architecture studies followed at the University of Oregon where he also began working in earnest with wood. By the mid 1990s, Vogel relocated to New York City where he established his first studio. Eventually focusing exclusively on furniture, he co-founded BDDW, a renowned American-made furniture and design company.

Collaborating with partner Kelly Zaneto, Vogel leads the exquisite design workshop BCMT in Kingston, designing and building purposeful furniture and goods from sustainably-sourced domestic hardwoods, Known for his exacting and meticulous nature, it is Vogel's indomitable energy to build, an innate sense of greater design issues, and a love of process that continues to set his work apart.

In addition to furniture, Vogel creates sculptures and sculptural wall pieces as part of his artistic practice—exploring form, balance, and the quiet poetry of materials. He draws inspiration from philosophical themes, spirituality, and the inherent beauty of nature. With BCMT Gallery, his work is shown alongside those of like-minded artists, cultivating a dialogue between art, materials, craftsmanship, and a connection with the natural world.

“Work inspires work. One idea leads to another. The love of making things and the desire to do better—to push ahead—excites me.”
